UPDATE.

Where are we at?

On November 16^th the committee had a public meeting to update residents with progress and asked for views and ideas.

COLOUR SCHEME.

We agreed a colour scheme for the hanging baskets which Tameside will plant and keep up. It would be good if people could bear this in mind when working on their window boxes and hanging baskets but we don’t want to be prescriptive.

NEIGHBOURHOODS

We’re encouraging groups of neighbours to plan for their street/ area and think how it could be improved for their benefit.
Help can be provided by volunteers, either practical (putting up brackets for baskets, pruning, growing seedlings) or with ideas for planting: just ask one of the committee.)
We’re interested in any ideas for improving the village: for example Lois Miles suggested a litter walk up Gorsey Brow; makes a change from staring at the scenery. Watch out for further information.

PORTFOLIO and DISPLAYS.

We are able to include activity that has been happening in the village over the year, not just in July when the judging takes place. Let us know what you’re doing. Please take photographs of any work you do and if possible, put them on CD and either leave them in the community centre letterbox or give them to one of the committee. LABEL the CD: BIBloom and add your name and address.

What’s happening?

This is not an exhaustive list, but gives a flavour of the range of activities that have started.

Tameside are looking at improving the area at the entrance to the village at the bottom of Hill End Lane on the left. They want to clear some of the tree saplings to encourage the best ones and underplant with native spring flowers. That will be our entrance ‘gateway’.
Tameside will clear unwanted ash saplings next spring. They will do lots of other tidying up.
The cricket club will host the judges at the start of the route.
Neighbours on Crescent Row have planted daffodils in the hedgerow opposite.
The school’s flowerbeds are going to be improved and pupils involved in the planning. The school has also been involved in designing the logo.
The cenotaph will be a feature with a planting of silver, green and red.
WI is keen to produce a picture decorated with a design created from flower petals as a commemoration at the Cenotaph.
FOBS are continuing to improve the look of the station with help from other groups. (brownies) Two new flowerbeds this summer.
Guides are going to plant and maintain the small bed at the top of Mill Brow.
Youth club are planning a mosaic to be permanently displayed in the village.
Local Artist to work with the young people of the village to create a mural on the wooden sleepers that form a fence at the railway arches.
The Countryside Wardens will host the Judges at the end of the route.
