FRIENDS OF BROADBOTTOM STATION (FoBS)

We are a new group which has just started in Broadbottom in January 2007.

Our aim is to enhance and improve existing provision at our local station in conjunction with Northern Rail and Network Rail.

We plan to make the station a more convenient, safer and more enjoyable place from which to start and finish a journey.

 We are in discussion with Tameside Council and Northern Rail to formulate plans to tidy up and improve the Recycling Facility in the station car park and with Northern Rail to provide shelter and seating on the Glossop platform. More details of our future plans are given in our ‘Action Plan’.

 Anyone is welcome to become a member of our group. Our annual membership fee is £1.

 FoBS Summer Events

May 17^th Community Rail Day event 11am to 1.30pm. All children of the village invited to come and work with artist to design a collage panel to be permanently displayed on the Glossop platform under the waiting room window.

June 10^th FoBS AGM at the Harewood 7.30pm. Reports and election of committee. All welcome. July 10^th Litter pick in station car park.

Recent Achievements

• Framed photos on display in ticket office area.
• Children’s station logo designs on display in ticket office area.
• Flowering bulbs and shrubs planted by the children of the village and volunteers.

Future Projects

• Relocating and improving recycling site in car park.
• Seat and shelter on the Glossop platform.
• An electronic information board for the station.
• Sympathetic management of the trees and undergrowth on Mottram Road side of car park.

FoBS Christmas Event

December 6^th joint event with Glossop.  Father Christmas, carols and lots of fun for children and adults.  More details later.

 Recent Achievements

• A collage panel has been installed to the right of the waiting room window on the Glossop platform.  The panel has been professionally produced by Karen Allerton and incorporates the work of the children of the village.  Take a look, it is very striking.
• The Community Rail day event was a great success with many children participating in the artwork.
• The FoBS stand at the Broadbottom Community day was very popular and over 40 people joined the group.
• Many thanks to Alf Halliday, a professional artist, for his four panel picture which depicts people waiting for a train and also music.
• Litter pick on 10 July was well attended and successful, thank you for turning out, especially the children.
